B.S. Natural Resource, Recreation, & Tourism | Colorado State University
Kelly is a people person and is constantly seeking adventure, whether it is an road trip to Hueco Tanks to boulder or teaching kindergartners about trees. After her freshman and sophomore years of college, she took a job in Yosemite National Park to escape the flat Midwest. In the granite canyons of the Sierra Nevadas she was introduced to climbing, kicking her desire for adventure into high gear. She soon moved to Colorado to finish her first degree in Natural Resources, Recreation, and Tourism. Teaching and sharing her love of the natural world is her first passion. During her early years on the front range of the Rockies she fell in love with bouldering. Adventurous road trips took her around the American west to all of the top bouldering destinations.
Not one to sit still for long, Kelly’s love for bouldering also took her to many stops across Europe. One of her favorite trips was a 10 day, 100 mile trekking safari through Tsavo National Park in Kenya. The arduous journey taught her about strengths people find only in challenging situations and that safety in nature is paramount. It was this experience that pushed her to pursue a Registered Nursing degree in Denver.
Kelly is continuously planning adventures while being a Mom to her daughters, ages 3 and 6. She lives in the foothills above Boulder. When she isn’t chasing her own kiddos, she volunteers as an environmental naturalist for Boulder County. Climbing goals, traveling, and trail running continue to feed her adventurous spirit. With Backcountry Pulse, Kelly is able to combine her passions of education, outdoors, nursing, and travel.
